Join us on a tour from past to present in Plassi! Plassi is the old town of Kalajoki, situated in the mouth of river Kalajoki, where you can still sense the atmosphere of an old little town in the Finnish countryside decades ago. Plassi was a center for merchandise already in the 1600s when tar was the main merchandise and livelihood mainly came from the sea, the fields and the forest. Since then, Plassi has been the home of various little shops such as an old photo studio, bakery, carpenter’s, a cinema, book store and even a workshop of a ”kantele” maker. Our tour begins from the old vicarage of Jokela. From the vicarage we will walk along the main street of Plassi and river Kalajoki, passing idyllic wooden houses and marketplace. We will pass the small fishing museum and Fiia’s cabin, the home museum of a single mother in the 1900s. Our tour will end in Havula Manor, a home museum, where we are introduced to the life and business of the sawmill owner Mr. Oskari Santaholma and his family. Havula Manor is an excellent example of a 1910s Art Nouveau- villa with a diverse decor as well as a wealthy 1900s merchant home, rare to Northern Finland.
